Las Vegas VA Hospital Upgrade

Las Vegas, Nevada
Contracting Method: Design-Bid-Build
Building Use: Medical Facility
Completion Date: TBD
Project Summary:
This project was a significant milestone for DAX Contracting as their first solo-awarded contract, demonstrating the team's resilience, adaptability, and dedication to excellence. Despite unexpected delays and design changes, Superintendent Tyler Zeher and the team successfully delivered a high-quality project, earning positive feedback from the Veterans Administration. With North Las Vegas investing in hundreds of acres around the VA Hospital campus for a future state-of-the-art medical complex, DAX is well-positioned to contribute to the region’s growing healthcare infrastructure. Scope of Work:

DAX Contracting’s first awarded solo project focused on upgrading the inpatient pharmacy at the Las Vegas VA Hospital by constructing compound rooms within an occupied space. This required working unconventional shifts to navigate sensitive areas while adhering to strict infection control standards.

Despite the project’s small footprint of just 536 sq. ft., it presented unique challenges, requiring the careful coordination of multiple trades working in close quarters. The team included:

  • 3 Door Carpenters
  • 2 HVAC Technicians
  • 2 Electricians
  • 1 Plumber
  • 3 Data Technicians
  • 2 Control Technicians

Challenges & Solutions
  • Tight Working Conditions: Managing multiple trades in a confined space required precise scheduling and coordination to ensure efficiency and safety.
  • Unforeseen Design Changes: Originally slated for a 180-day timeline (July 31, 2023 – March 8, 2024), contract modifications and design revisions extended the project nearly a year beyond the initial deadline. The team effectively navigated these changes, essentially constructing the space twice.
  • Maintaining Operational Integrity: To minimize disruption in an active hospital environment, DAX carefully scheduled work shifts and implemented strict infectious control measures.
