Project Summary:
We served as the prime contractor for the VA Renovate 2nd Floor project at the Iowa City VA Medical Facility. This $5.73 million project, initiated in April 2021 and on-going, involves extensive renovations to enhance the MOHS and Cardiology departments. Our team ensured that construction was carried out safely and efficiently, maintaining full operational status of the facility and adhering to stringent safety standards. Scope of Work:

This project involved a 14,000 sqft renovation of the 2nd floor of Building 1 at the Department of Veterans Affairs Healthcare System in Iowa City. The renovation included a complete demolition and new construction for the MOHS and Cardiology departments, featuring new procedure and exam rooms, office spaces, waiting areas, anesthesia rooms, and break rooms.

Challenges & Solutions

• Construction conducted while the facility remained fully operational
• Isolation of construction phases using fire-rated/clean room barriers and negative air environments
• Shift work and temporary acoustic barriers to minimize noise and vibration
• Coordination of phasing and operations with client and staff through weekly meetings
• Implemented Infectious Control Risk Assessment measures
• Managed power outages, transfers, and temporary emergency power provisions
• 24/7 construction operations during shutdowns with careful planning and monitoring
